This radio is a commercial hand held radio. Programming errors to memory channels in this Handheld Dual Band radio model could go undetected until needed, and be dangerous for field staff that may rely on it for summoning help in the event of an emergency. Errors may be corrected in the field by legally qualified operators (legislation regarding this is generally dependent on where the radio is sold, and may mandate that the radio can only be sold with a locked keypad so the operator can only use it to operate on licensed frequencies). In those jurisdictions where allowed, when the keypad is not locked, incorrect memory channels in the Anytone AT-3318UV dual band handheld can be corrected in the field if the operator has the necessary data for repeater access, and the knowledge required to identify an existing error in the memory channel that may be preventing that access. Then, using a complex series of steps that are outlined in this demonstration, it may be possible to resume field com's from remote and isolated venue's via repeater. This demonstration assumes a hypothetical scenario where the operator needs to change possible incorrect settings that inhibit the ability to use a repeater such as Wide/Narrow band, Transmit Frequency, Offset, and Tone Encoding and then store the corrections back into memory. It will address the needs of a very limited group, as it does not outline the steps required to unlock a radio, does not discuss software programming or procedures, does not discuss setting up the radio to use as a scanner, and is not intended as a tutorial for amateur radio. Nothing in this demonstration pertains to the use of consumer grade FRS radios, and will not apply to other brands of hand held radios.
