This is an economical VHF only radio meant to address group needs or as a second radio for communication within large or small groups. For example, this is the radio that is used by heli ski operators that want every client to have a radio that is locked onto one channel so they can communicate with the guide. Paired with a properly tuned antenna and waterproof case or bag, it is also a good choice as a second radio for couples who often go out together. For AT skiing for example, if the only person who has a radio is the same one that gets buried in an avalanche, his radio does not help much.
