Wouxun KG-816 Manual Programming Demonstration
Wouxun KG-816 Single Band VHF Hand Held Radio The KG 816 is the least intuitive we've seen in terms of manually programming it from the keypad. This could prove to be a problem if you're in the Backcountry and you 'think' the repeater you may need to use in fact has got the wrong parameters programmed in your radio. If you need to correct this problem while you're sitting on a tree branch with a Grizzly circling the base and looking up at you while he gnaws on your pack and ponders whether he can recover his nascent instincts for climbing, and there's you without the aid of your computer, cable, and software, you may experience a profound existential moment of the sort you did not seek. The manual is somewhat akin to watching a Mystery on PBS, some of us get it figured out sooner than others. As I am always among the latter, I thought perhaps this tutorial might be a good way for me to see if it's indeed possible to program this radio from the keypad. Apparently it is withal. This mind-numbing tutorial covers simplex, duplex, Wide/Narrow Band, CTCSS Encode, and memory channel programming techniques by referring to the manual, and hands-on demonstrations of keypad input procedures. The 816 is a noteworthy hand held due to it's suitability for users who are after the smallest form-factor and lightest package weight possible without sacrificing power output. It is a good choice for those who do not need to talk to other people who carry FRS radios because it is VHF only. It has 199 channels. The 816 with 1700mah battery weighs 212G as opposed to the UVD1P model at 246G. It is almost identical in size to the Anytone 3318 and 3319. Not being dual band, it has greater efficiency in terms of battery life, and more versatility with battery pack options. Pls refer to the description of programming the Anytone 3318 in our Channel for information about the legalities of using commercial 'Type Approved' communications equipment and how it may pertain to programming from the keypad in certain jurisdictions. This demonstration does not pertain to modifying radio firmware, using the radio as a scanner, or HAM Radio topics. Even if you do own a Wouxun, and master this process, it is still recommended you carry Bear Spray when travelling in areas where so required. Music: Google Free Library
